If you know me at all, you know that I’m not a morning person. I don’t even like to wake up before 10 a.m. if I can help it. So how I ended up on a morning hike this past weekend is beyond me… But there I was, bright and early, hiking up to the Lake Lenore Caves at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The things I do for my love of photography!
I had been wanting to plan an early morning photoshoot for the longest time, although I never got around to it before winter set in last year. But since temperatures had been warming up over the past couple of weeks, I was itching to get out there. Around the same time, a good friend of mine had posted a picture on Instagram of her hiking at Lake Lenore and I was just in awe of the beauty that place held. I knew I had to shoot there, and ASAP! So I reached out to Shawn and asked if she wanted to do that hike again, and this time throw in some modeling for me as well.
If you’ve never been to Lake Lenore, or explored the caves, you are missing out! The views along the hike are breathtaking- especially in the soft morning light. The caves are a little past Soap Lake, along Highway 17, on your way to Grand Coulee. The trail itself is about a mile and a half long roundtrip and for the most part very accessible. I’m not a hiker by any means so I would imagine it’s a breeze for more seasoned trekkers. Definitely a kid friendly hike too, and provides a few awesome photo ops along the way. I can’t wait to get back out there!
Also, shoutout to Shawn who did so amazing modeling for me! She was such a trooper and even posed barefoot amidst the hundreds of little sharp rocks.
